Boil, Boil, Toil and Trouble!!!

Well, here is a promised post on my Practical Magic inspired dining room! I wanted to channel the greenhouse in the film for Halloween. You can see more of this room in its Fall and Halloween dressing here, and the creepy buffetscape from last year here.

I'm hosting a FABULOUS Give-A-Way--check it out here.

I pulled in my collection of vintage and antique lab equipment and medicine bottles.

I then added a few books--Penicillin Therapy, and The Manufacture of Sulfuric Acid. These are books no home library should be without! Actually, I lucked out and picked these up for less than a dollar for both, but don't let my luck fool you--this genre of vintage books can be exorbitantly expensive!

I filled some of the bottles with colored liquid--the green goo is some really stinky body-wash someone had given me. I promise it smells really bad--I wouldn't usually waste something like this.

Here you can see some of the more greenhouse items I pulled in. . .

Of course, if you don't have vintage bottles, some plain bottles can be livened up with some vintage style labels--Martha Stewart has a great line available at Grandin Road and some other places. I link to a few sources on a Halloween post from last year. I'm sure a quick search on Pinterest would yield good results, too.

The orange liquid is Listerine!

I love the contrast this blue bottle brings to the mix--it is still sealed, but I doubt it is still antiseptic!

By all means--use caution with vintage medicine and chemical bottles ESPECIALLY if children are present! Who knows what lurks in some of these containers--do not use them for food....

More goodies coming soon!
